WELCOME NEW STUDENTS! Interested in Cinema Studies? Learn about the program, as students and faculty talk about the major, classes and events!

“Cinema Studies is unique at Oregon for being inter-unit.  Cinema Studies involves both faculty and courses from the College of Arts & Science, Architecture and Allied Arts, and the School of Journalism & Communication.

The great thing about Cinema Studies here is that it really does encompass all that cinema encompasses in the real world, everything from the most experimental video art, to PBS documentaries, to Hollywood films and TV shows.

Interested in Cinema Studies? Check-out “Cinema in the City” for Summer Term 2013

Cinema in the City is a summer session course co-offered by the University of Oregon Cinema Studies program and the Northwest Film Center.

Cinema in the City will explore how cinematographers and filmmakers use the moving image to interpret the urban landscape.  Students will develop their own moving image aesthetic by creating a short film that explores the contemporary urban environment of downtown Portland through pictures and sound.

Congratulations to Cinema Studies student Trace Cabot for being selected to present his paper at the SCMS Undergraduate Conference April 12-13, 2013

The conference features undergraduates from across North America who present their scholarly work on cinema and media.

Trace is the first recipient of a Cinema Studies scholarship to attend the conference.  The scholarship is funded by a generous donation from James Ivory.
