Taught by Cinema Studies Associate Professor Mike Aronson, this summer study abroad program is designed for students who want to immerse themselves in cinema studies in Ireland. Students in this 5-week program will get to work both critically and creatively, taking a course on contemporary Irish cinema and a course on digital filmmaking.
Application Deadline: March 15, 2024
Students will attend their courses at the Irish National Film School in Dún Laoghaire, a beautiful coastal town on the outskirts of Dublin, and live with local families in home-stays. Weekly excursions will allow students to learn on location about the country’s rich film history and explore the sites where important historical events, and films about those events, took place. Students will also travel together for a long weekend to attend the annual Film Fleadh, Ireland’s largest Film Festival held in Galway.
The 2024 Ireland Study Abroad Program is filling fast. Students are encouraged to complete applications early, as this program has a rolling admission and a waitlist will be created.

The program includes two classes: Ireland on Screen and Digital Dublin Filmmaking. All majors are welcome, and no course prerequisites are required.
- Ireland on Screen: Study filmmaking in Irish history, Irish filmmakers, and the cinematic reflections of the key elements of Ireland's cultural history.
- Digital Dublin Filmmaking: An intensive hands-on digital filmmaking course held in and around Dún Laoghaire.
The two, 4-credit courses help satisfy Core C and Production A/B Requirements for UO Cinema Studies majors.
All majors are welcome, and no course prerequisites are required.
The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship provides up to $5,000 for undergraduates to pursue study abroad and/or international internships.
There is also a total of $5000 in scholarship money available specifically for the Dublin program in addition to GEO general student scholarships.

Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship:
Are you planning to study abroad in the next year and have the Pell Grant as part of your FAFSA financial aid? If so, you should definitely apply to the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship. It is available exclusively to Pell Grant recipients, and the amount can be up to $5,000. GEO Scholarship Advisors are available to discuss the Gilman Scholarship and are happy to review essay drafts and offer feedback for revisions! Up to $5000 in scholarship funds are available for students accepted to this program. If interested, please refer to the Dublin Scholarship Essay in the program application or contact your study abroad advisor.
Will I receive a refund if my program is canceled?
GEO will refund all program and application fees in full if we cancel your study abroad program or GlobalWorks Internship for any reason at any time.
