The documentary film Agents of Change explores the racial tensions on two college campuses in the late 1960s, as black and minority students began to demand black professors and a curriculum that spoke to their communities. These challenges and conflicts are echoed on today's campuses and here at the University of Oregon, as minority students demand a voice and respect on our campus. 1968, at San Francisco State University, the students, organized under the banner of the Third World Liberation Front, went on strike to achieve their aims. Attacked by the National Guard and demonized by Governor Ronald Reagan, the students stayed on strike for months. In 1969, black students at Cornell, occupied the student union in order to protest the lack of black studies program and open racism on the college campus. Eventually these students armed themselves before negotiating a deal with the administration. The documentary is told in the words of the students and activists who participated in the protests.
