On November 25, 2022, Associate Professor Dong Hoon Kim taught a masterclass at the University Institution of Spanish Cinema of the University Carlos III of Madrid, Spain. Professor Kim was invited to deliver a lecture on North Korean cinema as a part of "Reflexiones sobre la cultura asiática" ("Reflections on Asian Culture"), a special film studies course funded by Eurasian Foundation from Asia.
Cinema Studies Assoc. Professor Erin Hanna recently participated in a panel discussion at Fantagraphics Bookstore and Gallery in Seattle about "See You at San Diego: An Oral History of Comic-Con, Fandom, and the Triumph of Geek Culture.”
Masami Kawai's latest fiction film project, VALLEY OF THE TALL GRASS, was selected for Film Independent’s 2022 Fast Track Film Finance Market.
The program is an intensive, four-day film-financing market where participants eager to push their projects forward are connected with established financiers, production companies, agents, managers, and other film industry professionals who can really elevate their project to the next step.

Matthew Thill is an Assistant Production Manager at LAIKA Studios and graduated from UO in 2014 with a degree in Cinema Studies. He bounced around for 1 year doing freelance work, but has stuck on at LAIKA since November of 2015. He worked in the central Production team for Kubo & the Two Strings, was an AD on the shooting floor of Missing Link, before pivoting over to the Animation team, where he currently works as an Assistant Production Manager during the filming of the recently announced Wildwood. Off the clock, Matthew can be found being a real baseball nerd either watching/playing, traveling around the lovely west coast, or at home playing with his cats.
If you stop by the CINE Equipment Room in Knight Library, you might run into our Lead Equipment Room Monitor, Tom Farrenkopf, class of ’23. As a CINE major with a minor in sociology, Tom is making the most of their senior year working in the department and conducting research as a McNair Scholar!
