Cinema Studies Associate Professor Daniel Gómez Steinhart discusses his book project, Cross-Border Hollywood: Production Politics and Practices in Mexico, during the CLLAS Research Series Faculty Research Presentation on Wednesday, May 11th at 3:30 pm in the EMU Crater Lake Rooms.

Cinema Studies Associate Professor Michael Aronson received a 2022 Faculty Research Award. Distributed annually by the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation, Faculty Research Awards support scholarship, creative projects and quantitative or qualitative research from all disciplinary backgrounds.
Cinema Studies proudly welcomes music video director, choreographer, performance artist, and filmmaker Diane Martel as the 2022 Harlan J. Strauss Visiting Filmmaker. Please join us in May* for a series of free community events with Diane Martel:
• The Art of Music Video, featuring screenings and discussion about Martel's 30-year career
• From MTV to YouTube, featuring screenings and discussion about the history and evolution of music video with director Diane Martel
• Treatment Writing with Diane Martel, an interactive workshop with the director
Diane Martel got her start directing music videos in the 1990s for Def Jam and rap artists such as Method Man, ODB, Redman, Gang Starr, and Mobb Deep. She was also the go-to director for Mariah Carey in the ‘90s. In the 2000s, Martel directed videos for N.E.R.D. and Pharrell Williams, Pink, Beyoncé, J.Lo, White Stripes, The Killers, Ciara, Alicia Keys, Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera, Britney Spears, Snoop Dogg, Mary J. Blige, Franz Ferdinand, Nicki Minaj, and Coldplay. She directed two of 2013's most iconic videos: Miley Cyrus's “We Can't Stop” and “Blurred Lines” by Robin Thicke feat. T.I. and Pharrell. Martel was also the director/creative director for Miley's Bangerz Tour.
