A message from Cinema Studies faculty and staff

Dear Cinema Studies majors,

As UO joins a growing list of universities switching to remote learning this spring, your Cinema Studies faculty and staff are united in our efforts to provide equal access to your education. We are all facing new demands: juggling new routines or responsibilities, negotiating limited access to technology or reliable internet, caring for ourselves and loved ones, learning new technologies (sometimes with kids running around us), and more.

Your Cinema Studies instructors are keeping these challenges and limitations in mind as we plan remote courses and will:

  • Provide technologically accessible options for learning content and critical thinking skills

  • Listen and provide flexibility in completing tasks or make necessary accommodations

  • Focus on developing community and intellectual connections

  • Embrace the fact that spring courses are not fully developed online courses, but emergency and sometimes “low tech” community measures intended to support students while maintaining social distance during the covid-19 pandemic

We are committed to supporting you by being as flexible and generous as possible. Thank you for being a part of the Cinema Studies community and for your patience as we respond to breaking global news at this extraordinary historical moment.

We’ll get through this together, as a community. In the meantime, please be safe and stay home.

For more information, please visit our CINE-specific FAQ page, which will be updated as needed and includes a link for your questions. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know at cinema@uoregon.edu. UO Cinema Studies may have gone remote, but we are still “here” to help!

Sincerely,
The Department of Cinema Studies Faculty & Staff
