New Class!

Students seeking honors in Cinema Studies are encouraged to enroll in CINE 407: Honors Thesis I and II.

Taught by Professor Priscilla Peña Ovalle, Honors Thesis I is offered winter term and will support your research or creative project planning, research, and writing to provide you with a solid plan and early draft of your Thesis Project.

Honors Thesis II is offered spring term and will help students finalize their research or creative project in preparation for a spring defense.

Read below about how to enroll. Feel free to email Prof. Ovalle with any questions or concerns about the proposal, GPA, and/or eligibility.

Instructor approval required to enroll

To gain instructor approval to enroll in Honors Thesis I and II, students must:

1.  Email a one-page proposal about your research or creative project to Professor Ovalle (povalle@uoregon.edu). This proposal should include the following:

  • A brief explanation of your seminar project format and the class where this work started. For example, are you expanding a research paper or screenplay into a thesis-length project? In what class did this project originate? (Note: For Winter 2023, projects not previously begun in a cinema studies course will be considered. Applicants may be asked to meet with Prof. Ovalle to ensure the seminar is a productive experience for a new project.)

  • A brief explanation of why you’d like to develop this thesis project. In other words, how will this project contribute to your long-term educational or professional goals?

2.  Provide name & contact information for 1-2 references who can speak to any of the following: A promising research or creative project you developed in a cinema studies course; your research, writing, and/or visual storytelling skills; and/or time- or project-management skills.
