The University of Oregon-UNESCO Crossings Institute is proud to announce a screening of Leo Tolstoy and Mahatma Gandhi: A Double Portrait in the Interior of the Age with Galina Evtushenko, who produced and directed the film.

About the Film

The film explores a correspondence between Leo Tolstoy and Mahatma Gandhi, who never met, but who corresponded during the last year of Tolstoy’s life. The correspondence covered crucial philosophical, religious and political issues facing humanity in the 20th and 21st Centuries. The film aims to show that although Russia and India don’t have a common land or sea border, the ways of life of Tolstoy and Gandhi prove that this border is in the spiritual sphere, and it doesn’t separate, but brings two great nations together.
