Mission:

The goals of 2021 CONNECTION: a virtual conference about adoption are to build a network of adoptees and allies across universities, as well as provide space for all to learn about and share adoptee experiences. The conference features a keynote speaker, student-led workshops and panel discussions, and a film screening!

Theme:

We highlight the many ways people feel connected to their inner identities, as well as the connections to the world around them. Adoptees may have connections to their adoptive families and birth families; to different races, ethnicities, cultures, languages, and communities; to places close to home and far away. The strength and depth of each connection may differ greatly, but regardless, all of these connections impact the identity of each individual.

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion:

The adoptee community is incredibly diverse, as there are many different types and experiences of adoption, including, but not limited to, domestic adoption, international adoption, fostering, as well as interracial, intercultural, and interfamily adoption. The 2021 Adoption Conference will create a safe space for all people, regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, or ability, to come together and have meaningful discussions about topics related to identity, family, and adoptee advocacy. By collaborating with adoptee clubs from across the country, we build opportunities for students to share their voices, gain valuable leadership skills and experience, and become a part of a network of young activists.
