The Cinema Studies Commencement Ceremony will be held
Sunday, June 16, 2019 – 12:30 p.m. – 156 Straub Hall
Reception immediately following the ceremony in the same location
Congratulations to the Cinema Studies majors participating in the 2019 Cinema Studies Commencement Ceremony!
Please read below for important information on registering to participate in the Cinema Studies ceremony, applying to graduate, ordering regalia and honors cords, and important day-of-event information.
Register to Participate in the Cinema Studies Commencement Ceremony:
As long as you will be complete with all Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree, major(s) and minor(s) requirements within the 2019 calendar year (by fall 2019), you will be permitted to participate in the Cinema Studies Ceremony. Please note that "participating in commencement" is not the same thing as "graduating." Diplomas are not issued at the Cinema Studies Commencement Ceremony (see below for information on graduating).
In order to participate in the Cinema Studies Ceremony and have your name printed in the commencement program, students must submit the Cinema Studies Commencement Reservation from by Wednesday, May 15, 2019.
Note: Students with a "confidentiality director release restriction" must contact Veratta Pegram-Floyd, Cinema Studies Student Services Assistant Director at CINEAdvising@uoregon.edu to provide written authorization to have their name printed in the program.
Apply to Graduate:
“Graduating” and “participating in commencement” are two different things. "Graduating" means you are receiving a diploma and have completed all B.A. degree, major(s) and minor(s) requirements. You will receive your actual diploma by mail 6-8 weeks after your graduation date, not during the commencement ceremony.
Apply to Graduate in DuckWeb:
The deadline for you to apply for graduation in Duckweb (student Menu – Apply for Undergraduate Degree) each term is the Sunday following the fourth week of classes by 11:59 p.m. If you happen to miss the deadline for the term in in which you plan on graduating OR you need to extend your time and graduate later, you will need to contact the Office of the Registrar via your UO email with that information and you UO ID # (95#).
A degree will not be awarded if your general education requirements and all declared major(s) and minor(s) requirements are not met. Contact CINEAdvising@uoregon.edu if you have any questions about your progress toward completion of degree requirements. When you apply for graduation as a Cinema Studies major, you will be applying for the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree NOT the Film Certificate, as Cinema Studies majors are not eligible for the Film Certificate since the Film Certificate operates similarly to a minor.
Upcoming Deadlines to Apply for your Degree:
- Spring 2019 degree: April 28, 2019
- Summer 2019 degree (includes "zero week"): July 21, 2019
- Fall 2019 degree: October 27, 2019
Regalia and Honors Cords
Regalia may be purchased through the UO Bookstore during the annual Grad Fair Monday, April 8th – 11th in the Duck Store. Visit the UO Commencement website for more information.
IMPORTANT NOTE: After April 11th, the regalia price will increase.
Students eligible for departmental honors may purchase honor cords with their regalia. Cinema Studies will notify students if they qualify for honors. Students with departmental honors will be noted in the commencement program.
Graduating seniors who have earned at least 90 credits in residence at the University of Oregon and have successfully completed all other university degree requirements are eligible for graduation with Latin honors. The Office of the Registrar computes Latin honors upon graduation. Once students are notified by the Office of the Registrar that they are receiving Latin honors, students will be able to purchase an honors cord at the Duck Store.
