apply to graduate
In duckweb

“Graduating” and “participating in commencement” are two different things. "Graduating" means you are receiving a diploma and have completed all B.A. degree, major(s) and minor(s) requirements. You will receive your actual diploma by mail 6-8 weeks after your graduation date, not during the virtual celebration.

Applying for your degree is different than opting in to participate in commencement. In order to receive a degree from the UO this spring, undergraduates must apply by April 25, 2021, via DuckWeb

The deadline for you to apply for graduation in Duckweb  (student Menu – Apply for Undergraduate Degree) each term is the Sunday following the fourth week of classes by 11:59 p.m. If you happen to miss the deadline for the term in in which you plan on graduating OR you need to extend your time and graduate later, you will need to contact the Office of the Registrar via your UO email with that information and you UO ID # (95#).

A degree will not be awarded if your general/core education requirements and all declared major(s) and minor(s) requirements are not met.
Contact if you have any questions about your progress toward completion of degree requirements. When you apply for graduation as a Cinema Studies major, you will be applying for the Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree NOT the Film Certificate. Note: Since the Film Certificate operates similarly to a Cinema Studies minor, Cinema Studies majors are not eligible for completion of the Film Certificate.

We encourage you to check in with an advisor to confirm that you’re on track to meet your remaining degree requirements and to discuss your post-graduate plans. Tykeson Advising is available during the Spring 2021 Term via Microsoft Teams and phone. Call (541) 346-9200, or live chat with Tykeson Advising Intake and Operations on Microsoft Teams during business hours of 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday through Friday. You can also schedule an appointment through Navigate. Please check Tykeson's website for technology resources, to access live chats, and for more information on their availability.

Upcoming Deadlines to Apply for Your Degree:

  1. Spring 2021 degree: April 25, 2021
  2. Summer 2021 degree (includes “zero week”): TBA
  3. Fall 2021 degree: TBA

opt in to the university commencement celebration

Grad Parade and Livestreamed Stage Procession (In-Person)

There are two in-person activities being added to this year’s UO commencement day, June 12: the Grad Parade, followed by a livestreamed Stage Procession. Both activities will be outdoors and will be for graduates only. The Grad Parade will begin at 12:30 p.m. PDT. Graduates will check in and then line up on 13th Avenue in front of Matthew Knight Arena no earlier than 11:30 a.m. At approximately 12:30 p.m., graduates will parade west on 13th Avenue, crossing Agate Street and continuing through campus toward the Memorial Quad. Immediately following the Grad Parade, graduates will then proceed to a designated area on the Quad where they will cross a stage as their names are read aloud, and then have their picture taken.

Graduates must opt in to these two in-person activities via the Commencement Participation Form and must observe all COVID-19 and university conduct guidelines at all times. Please note: In the event that public health restrictions change, the event is subject to cancellation without notice.

UO Main Commencement (Live Webcast)

The main UO Commencement live webcast will take place on Saturday, June 12, 2021. You can watch pre-recorded school and college ceremonies directly following the University Commencement Celebration (posted at approximately 10:00 a.m. PDT).

Class of 2021 graduates who wish to participate in UO commencement activities this year must opt in by May 10, 2021, using the UO 2021 Commencement Participation Form. Completing this step is mandatory.

Each eligible graduate who opts in by May 10, 2021, will receive a special celebration box to help commemorate this important academic achievement. As we are doing for the Class of 2020, the Class of 2021 is also invited back to campus to participate in our regular commencement exercises next year. Information on Commencement 2022 will be available next fall.

All graduates who opt in by May 10 will have their name read as part of their school or college’s pre-recorded commencement ceremony. Students can also add a photo, short message, and a short video to enhance their recognition moment. These slides can be downloaded on commencement day to share with family and friends. Graduates who opt in will be sent an email from StageClip with instructions on how to personalize their graduation slide. Graduates in the Honors College or who have more than one major may participate in a maximum of two virtual school and college ceremonies.

Graduates from the Department of Cinema Studies will be recognized in the College of Arts and Sciences Humanities Commencement Ceremony. More information will be available as we get closer to commencement.

order your graduation essentials
grad fair is happening now!

From announcements to regalia, connect with The Duck Store to order your graduation essentials. Regalia and all other graduate essentials can be found and purchased through The Duck Store, as part of their annual Grad Fair. We’ve waived the annual commencement fee again this year and all graduates will receive a diploma cover free of charge, thanks to a generous donation from the University of Oregon Alumni Association. Additional items to consider:

  • Department Honor Cords:  Students eligible for departmental honors may purchase honor cords with their regalia. Cinema Studies will notify students if they qualify for honors. Students with departmental honors will be noted in the commencement program.

  • Latin Honor Cords:  Graduating seniors who have earned at least 90 credits in residence at the University of Oregon and have successfully completed all other university degree requirements are eligible for graduation with Latin Honors. The Office of the Registrar computes Latin honors upon graduation. Once students are notified by the Office of the Registrar that they are receiving Latin honors, students will be able to purchase an honors cord at the Duck Store.

  • Study Abroad Sash:  Did you study abroad? Show off where you studied abroad with a study abroad sash! GEO Study Abroad is offering international flag graduation sashes for purchase.
