Appointment Advising No Show Policy

When a student fails to show up for a scheduled appointment, it can have a detrimental impact on their academic success and ability to register on time/register for classes of interest rather than classes of necessity. Additionally, students’ inability to show up and/or cancel appointments in a timely fashion impacts fellow students' access to Cinema Studies advising appointments. There are a finite number of appointments available each term and the student services assistant director would like to serve as many students as possible.

It is important to cancel or reschedule your appointment as soon as possible in order to give another student an option for that time. If you are sick, it is appreciated if you remain home to take care of yourself. 

Effective Spring 2018, the following policy will be enforced when you fail to show up and/or cancel or reschedule your appointment within a reasonable timeframe. A reasonable timeframe is considered a minimum of 24 hours notice of cancellation and/or reschedule.

First No-Show

If you no-show for a scheduled appointment, you have lost the ability to schedule another appointment for the term during the high volume period. High volume periods during the academic year are weeks 6 through 9 (two weeks leading up to initial/priority registration and the weeks of initial/priority registration) of fall, winter, and spring terms. Additionally, you will be sent a follow up email informing you that you missed your appointment.

Second No-Show

If you no-show for a scheduled appointment within the same term and/or cancel or reschedule your appointment with less than 24 hours notice (thus prohibiting another student from that appointment slot), for the remainder of the term you will be restricted to drop-in advising only. 

Additional Information

  • Advising appointments are available up to three weeks in advance with additional weeks being released one week at a time.

  • Only one appointment per student will be permitted during term high volume periods in order to maximize student service delivery.

  • No-shows will be reset/cleared at the start of each academic term and will not carry over from year to year.

  • A no-show is considered any appointment in which a student fails to attend without:

  1. Canceling through the Calendly app or emailing, or
  2. When the student is more than 10 minutes late without notification
