Cinema Studies Welcomes Producer Neil Kopp

Neil Kopp is the first visiting filmmaker coming to campus as part of the inaugural “Harlan J. Strauss Visiting Filmmaker Endowment in Cinema Studies”

Cinema Studies is pleased to welcome Producer Neil Kopp as the first visiting filmmaker in the “Harlan J. Strauss Visiting Filmmaker Endowment in Cinema Studies.” Kopp will engage in a two-week university residency during spring term 2016 and will be involved in a variety of campus activities, including teaching workshops and mentoring students in the CINE 408 “Art of Producing” course, as well as participating in public conversations. Portland-based producer Neil Kopp has been responsible for generating some of the best independent films of recent years. Balancing good taste, logistical know-how, and productive working relationships, he has had a vital role in bringing to screens the work of some of independent cinema’s most exciting filmmakers. He has had a fruitful collaboration with director Kelly Reichardt, producing her films Old Joy (2006), Wendy and Lucy (2008), Meek's Cutoff (2010), and Night Moves (2014)Kopp recently completed Reichardt’s Certain Women, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2016. He also produced Gus Van Sant’s Paranoid Park (2007) and Jeremy Saulnier’s Green Room, which premiered in the Director’s Fortnight at the 2015 Cannes Film Festival. His films have garnered many awards and critical acclaim, and Kopp received an Independent Spirit Producers Award. He produces with Anish Savjani through their company filmscience.

Working Filmmakers Series Presents: The Art of Producing with Neil Kopp

UO students, faculty, staff, and the community are invited to the upcoming Working Filmmaker Series presentation with Neil Kopp, as he discusses his career as a producer in the film industry. The Working Filmmaker Series is an annual series that brings industry professionals to campus to discuss what it takes to make a living in the industry. This event is free and open to the public.
