Screening of "Tangerine" and Talk-Back with Producer Darren Dean

The UO Center for Student Involvement's Intersectional Events Team is partnering with the LGBTESS and Cinema Studies Program to present the award-winning film, Tangerine.  Following the screening, Producer Darren Dean will facilitate a talk-back about the importance of this film.

This film made a huge impact this past year as it was a major film that featured two trans actresses of color, was shot completely on an iPhone, and made a major run for Oscar recognition. Following the screening, producer Darren Dean will facilitate a talk-back about the importance of this film.  For more information, please visit the UO Event Calendar.

Darren Dean is an award-winning writer-director-producer who, along with frequent collaborator Sean Baker, was nominated for the John Cassavetes Independent Spirit Award in 2009 for co-writing and producing indie darling PRINCE OF BROADWAY. His follow-up as producer, 2011's celebrated international co-production KINYARWANDA (directed by Alrick Brown) yielded the World Cinema Audience Award at Sundance, as well as earning him an NAACP Image Award nomination for Best Independent Feature. Named to countless top ten lists for the 2015, his most recent producing effort, TANGERINE, was a breakout indie hit, garnering 5 Spirit Award nominations (including a Best Actress win for star Mya Taylor and a Piaget Producer's Award nomination for Dean) and wins for the Audience Award at the Gotham Awards and Best Feature - Limited Release at The GLAAD Media Awards. Newest works to hit the 2016 festival circuit include Baker's Award-Winning short film SNOWBIRD and Daniel Maldonado's Award-Winning feature debut, H.O.M.E. Currently, he just wrapped Executive Producing Baker's THE FLORIDA PROJECT and continues to develop several projects for both the big and small screen, including Will Eisner's legendary graphic novel, A Contract with God. Dean is also an educator at New York Film Academy."
