"Beats of the Antonov," is an award winning documentary telling the story of people caught in of one of the longest running conflicts in the world: the Sudanese Civil War. This war has resulted in the misery for millions and the splitting of Sudan into two nations. The filmmakers, Hajooj Kuka and Steven Markovitz, will take us on a journey of resilience and show how the Sudanese people of the Nuba Mountains and the Blue Nile struggle to keep a fragile thread of their humanity from unraveling through the use of music. To achieve this, Kuka weaves together the voices of militants, social workers, intellectuals, and everyday people. In the midst of a war that is ultimately for the ‘soul of Sudan,' this movie will show the power and strength of the Sudanese who have found peace through their indigenous customs. We will be hosting a discussion panel featuring members of our team as well as community members. We hope to foster discussion between students and faculty about the different ways communities are able to overcome conflict and how these strategies may work in our daily lives. We are passionately committed to promoting a harmonious campus community.
