Eyewitness Media Workshop
As social media and YouTube footage plays a greater role in reporting, journalists, activists, and human rights investigators face the risk of being duped by footage claiming to be something it is not. This workshop will provide real examples of online footage misinterpreted by journalists, falsely described by activists, and manipulated with the intention of inciting hatred or undermining authentic citizen reports. Participants will develop the skills of asking probing questions of online images, and learn tools and processes to assess whether they are looking at authenic footage, or whether they are the target of a hoax. Workshop will be led by Madeleine Bair, Curator of the YouTube Human Rights Channel at Witness
